Teflon® (PTFE) machining and semi-finished products
What is Teflon® (PTFE) and how is it processed?
Teflon® (PTFE) is a synthetic polymer composed primarily of tetrafluoroethylene. The processing of Teflon® (PTFE) involves the synthesis of the polymer through radical polymerization. The material is then sintered, meaning it is heated to high temperatures to create a cohesive and resistant solid. Teflon® (PTFE) is subsequently processed into various forms, including tubes, sheets, rods, skived tapes and profiles. Processing techniques include pressing, calendaring, extrusion and injection molding.
Teflon® machining in different industrial sectors
Custom machining of Teflon® (PTFE) offers numerous advantages compared to other techniques. In particular, it allows the creation of customized shapes tailored to designers’ specific requirements, without the need for expensive and complex molds. In addition, thanks to their precision, these machining processes make it possible to achieve extremely accurate and repeatable results over time.
Applications of custom-machined Teflon® (PTFE) components are numerous and include the production of gaskets, valves, flexible hoses, components for the food and pharmaceutical industries, and many other uses.
Overall, these machining processes represent a versatile and cost-effective solution for producing Teflon® (PTFE) parts tailored to customer requirements.
Teflon® semi-finished products
Teflon® (PTFE) semi-finished products are available in various shapes and sizes. Among the most common are sheets, tubes, rods, skived tapes and profiles. These semi-finished products are used in many industrial sectors, such as the food, medical, chemical, aerospace and automotive industries. Teflon® (PTFE) sheets are used for the manufacture of gaskets, linings for chemical equipment and mechanical components. Teflon® (PTFE) tubes are widely used in the pharmaceutical and food industries for the transport of high-purity liquids and gases.
